Crewkerne & Ilminster DeanerySt Mary the VirginIsle Abbotts
Isle Abbotts tower is considered one of the finest in a county famous for its towers. Built between 1510 and 1520, it displays the West Somerset top with five pinnacles at each corner. The Hunky Punks at the base of the parapet are some of the best to be seen in Somerset. Construction of the Nave took place in the 14th century. Of particular note is the fretted ironwork across the roof and the hagioscope (or squint) . The list of incumbents dates back to A.D.1262. The chancel features a fine panelled arch and has a barrelled roof. After being silent for over a hundred years the bells were restored in 1999 and dedicated by the Rt. Rev. James Thompson, Lord Bishop of Bath and Wells
