ANGLICANS & METHODISTS IN COMBE St NICOLAS SIGN COVENANT
After
many years of working together and with the example of the national covenant
between the churches, the two churches in Combe St. Nicholas have signed a joint
covenant. The signing took place in a very special and joyful service on the
eve of Palm Sunday, which began in St. Nicholas Church and was completed at the
Methodist Church. The service was led by The Revd Phil Regan and The Revd
Marilyn Tricker, and both The Revd John Carne (District Chairman of the Plymouth
& Exeter Methodist District) and The Rt. Revd Peter Maurice (Bishop of Taunton)
spoke.
SILENCE FOR OVER 48 HOURS
Is such a thing possible? Not
really . . . there are bound to be noises. But a time without much conversation,
a time quietly listening to the Word of God . . . that
is possible. Perhaps
you’d like to try it.
On behalf of The Fellowship of
Contemplative Prayer, I am arranging a silent retreat at THE COMMUNITY OF ST
FRANCIS, COMPTON DURVILLE next year, 2009. The dates are Tuesday to Friday, 28
April to 1 May. Our focus will be on listening in contemplative silence to the
Word of God, using chosen Sayings from the Bible. Brief guidance and commentary
will be given but other conversation will be restricted to the first and last
meals, i.e. Tuesday evening and Friday breakfast. The cost will be around £90
inclusive of all meals. Some bursary assistance may be available in cases of
need.
I would like to test the level of
interest. Anyone who thinks they would like to attend this retreat is asked to
contact me now without any commitment at this stage. Just say that you are
interested. I will then send further details in the New Year.
Please
write to me, The Revd Canon Martin Tunnicliffe at
202 Ralph Rd. Solihull, W. Midlands
B90 3LE or send an e-mail to martin.tunnicliffe@tesco.net

This section of the web is also where Deanery initiatives are described.
We will share our goals and our progress towards achieving these goals in our

We will do our best to publish. After all, the more interesting stuff on our
web site the more useful it is. However it is the decision of the editor,
the Rural Dean, about what gets published.
